In preparation of each year’s Pro Am, our goal is that every Team begins with a chance to win. While the Pro Am has never been about winning and its focus is on value, good friends, good times and a great venue, competitive integrity is a key component to the tournament’s success. The Tournament Committee continues to strive in providing competitive equity and ensure value. To fulfill our goal of competitive integrity, we will continue with Markers assigned to leading Teams per flights & the Modified Pyramid Handicap System (see: Event Information for details) to monitor and adjust handicaps round to round. The Tournament Committee will continue to police handicaps (both before and during the event), monitor teams and restrict invitations.

The Puerto Vallarta Pro Am boasts past participation by PGA Tour Players, PGA Tour winners, Past Major champions, club professionals and some of the most prominent and influential amateurs associated with the game of golf. Competitive integrity is crucial as over 80% of our teams return year-after-year as we continue to improve and modify our format making it more enjoyable for all parties involved. International Pro Ams will continue to evolve the event in an effort to provide the best tournament experience year-after-year.

SENIOR TEE OPTIONS

Senior Tee Options - Amateurs

Amateur players age 60 or older may elect to play from the forward (SeniorTees) tee markers as defined on the Tournament Rules Sheet with appropriate handicap adjustment based on prevailing USGA policy.

Tournament Handicap: 0 – 12 / Senior Tee Adjustment = -2 Shots
Tournament Handicap: 13–29 / Senior Tee Adjustment = -3 Shots
Tournament Handicap: 30 –36/ Senior Tee Adjustment = -4 Shots

This option is ONLY available prior to teeing off on the team’s first hole of the first round and the election to do so must be noted clearly on the scorecard by a member of the Tournament Committee or by the team’s Golf Professional acting on behalf of the Committee. No player may elect or decline this option after playing their first shot of the tournament from the then chosen tee markers.

Senior Tee Options - Professionals

Professional players age 50 or older may elect to play from the forward (Senior Tees) tee markers as defined on the Tournament Rules Sheet.

A professional player may exercise this option prior to the start of any round by notifying any member of the Tournament Committee, but under no circumstances will a player be permitted to change tees once a round has begun.

By exercising this option after round 1, a professional player becomes ineligible for the Individual Professional Event(s) and purse, but remains eligible for Team Prizes (including daily cash pool), Specialty Events and Pro-Scratch event. Those Professionals electing Senior Tees prior to the start of round 1 will be eligible for the Senior Professional Purse. Any Professional wishing to elect Senior Tees and participate in the Senior Professional Purse, must notify a Tournamemt Committee member prior to the start of Round #1.

Handicap Information

Participant’s indexes will be captured beginning October 14, 2024.  A Tournament Handicap will be assigned, based on individual index and a “blended” Slope Rating, for all tournament Rounds, Furthermore, individual NET performance will be evaluated daily utilizing the Modern Pyramid Handicap System.

Modified Pyramid Handicap System:

The “Modified Pyramid Handicap System” was introduced in attempt to provide a more equitable competition for all participants.

The system adjusts certain handicaps, for that round and all future rounds, as follows:

  • Any competitor scoring greater than 6 Net sub-par holes shall have his handicap reduced 1 stroke for each sub-par hole greater than 6.
  • Any competitor returning a Net score of less than 66 shall have his handicap reduced 1 stroke per stroke less than 66 *no score greater than a double bogey will be utilized for this calculation.

All adjustment will be effective for the round incurred + all remaining tournament rounds

The Tournament Committee reserves the right to adjust any handicap it deems fitting to insure competitive integrity, both before and during the tournament proper.  These adjustments can be in addition to the “Modern Pyramid Handicap System”  used daily and its decisions are final.
